This is a polyester thread designed to have a better appearance in the seam while being very strong.I do a lot of sewing and quilting. My favorite thread for top stitch is Sulky thread. I use it as my top stitch thread when the thread is visible. This new Dual Duty XP thread has not replaced its status as the favorite. I use Coats&Clark Dual Duty XP thread as a bobbin thread and for utility type sewing where the appearance of the thread is less important than the strength of it. The best feature of this thread is its strength, the worst is that creates quite a bit of "thread dust" in the bobbin compartment. There's nothing special (much less heavy) about it. This is exactly what you'd get at any department store that carries sundries. As for the price, unfortunately it's very high here. Just click on the current ads from "external websites" to see that you can get 500 yards of this exact same thread for $2.10; here, it's $4.25 for 125 yards. OUCH! That's my fault for not investigating further.I also found the heavy thread that I was looking for (same manufacturer) at the same website. I've always called it "button thread", but it's sometimes called upholstery thread. Whatever you choose to call it, it's HEAVY thread. This product is not. It's a decent quality thread, but it's far from heavy. heavy duty let down, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Dual Duty XP Heavy Thread 125yds - Black (Kitchen) Got this product, and was somewhat dissappointed in it. it was just a near regular type spool of thread, and nowhere near as "heavy-duty', as I had hoped. Could have gotten this @ Wal-mart, and much cheaper, too. Live and learn. |
